Why You Should Be Drinking More Water

Happy hump day! This week in NC has been upper 90s... no joke it is HOT outside! Yesterday I went for a 30 minute walk (without any SPF on - bad idea) and ended up getting heat blisters all across my arms and chest.

Accutane is no joke y'all. (You can read about my month one and two here and here)

Remember when you were a kid and your mother always told you to drink water when you were outside on hot summer days? (My mom always forced us to down  bottle the second we walked back inside) Drinking a healthy amount of water is always important, but during the summertime (and on Accutane of course) you have to be especially cautious because its so easy to get dehydrated.

But there is so many benefits to drinking water in general - my first step towards getting into a healthier lifestyle all started when I gave up Diet Coke (my drug of choice) and drinking more water and green tea. Those first few weeks after swearing off of Diet Coke were rough, but after that my body just felt so much better without the so many toxins. (Sorry to disappoint but Diet Coke is literally a can of chemicals y'all... and I'm pretty sure its what kept my acne so bad for so many years.)

As a general rule, I've been told you should always try and drink about 6-8 cups of water a day. I think this goes for 12oz glasses, but I am a big fan of using my Camelbak water bottle (I literally have had it since my sophomore year of high school and its still going strong!) and I find that drinking water is so much easier when you have something cute to drink from. These two tumblers from Lilly Pulitzer and Kate Spade are adorable!!

A good way to keep track of exactly how much water you are drinking are Apps. You always have your phone on you anyways right? Make sure to always bring along a drink! I am a big fan of the apps Waterlogged and iDrated - its an easy and fun way to keep track of your hydration patterns.

One of my first complaints when I first switched over to drinking more water than anything is that water doesn't really have a taste... I tried putting fruits in it, but I was never a big fan of any combinations I came up with. My water HAS to be ice cold or else I won't drink it- is that weird?

Do you do anything fun to spice up your water? Know of any good apps? Let me know!

Always, kTm

  1. I went through a similar experience when I realized that caffeine was causing me to have seizures! Now I drink mostly water, and it feels like I have a completely different body. When I'm at work, I always bring a cute tumbler full of water. And I have a camelbak with a filter in it (so I don't freak out about water from water fountains) and that helped me a tremendous amount, as well.

A few months ago I purchased an "infusing" bottle to infuse fruit into my water. I really like cranberry and lemon together, blueberries, and cucumber. (I think cucumber is my favorite because it's soooo refreshing.)

Good luck with your Accutane process! I've never taken it, but I've heard its hell. Hopefully its well worth it :)
