My Accutane Experience - Month Two

I can't believe it has only been two months that I have officially been on accutane - it feels like so much longer! If you are new to my blog, you can see the start to my accutane experience here. Month two definitely came with more of the crazy side effects-

  • Severely Dry, Itchy Skin // Nothing new there, I'm finally going through a whole bottom of lotion though! (and getting through a full sized beauty product is one of the best feelings!)
  • Chapped Lips // Still there, still terrible. After literally sharpening my Maybelline Baby Lips down to a needle point, Carmex was recommended to me and I have been LOVING the brand. I have little tubes of it stashed all over the place!
  • Nosebleeds // Very, very slight nosebleeds occasionally.
  • Dry Eyes // This has been in the last two weeks this has happened, but nothing that can't be fixed with some eye drops.
  • Dehydration // About the same, always drinking water!
  • Oil Production // I've noticed that my skin actually started getting oily again, so I used a lighter moisturizer and it went back to dry. I currently have 4 moisturizers I cycle through (its not as excessive as you would think believe it or not!)

My friends and family still says it is looking better each day, and I can honestly say my back is the clearest I've ever seen it! Definitely making progress!

If you have any questions or advice please let me know thanks!

Happy Friday! Melissa over at Stay Fabulous did a post a little while ago highlighting her favorite Lilly Pulitzer 5X5's and I thought it was the cutest thing! (So much, I wanted to share my own recent favorites!) If you are unfamiliar with the Lilly 5X5's, they are released 5 days a week (I always see them first on Instagram, then Pinterest) and they are basically little bright paintings based on whatever is inspiring the Lilly print studio that week (or a holiday coming up). Whenever I paint, I tend to paint Lilly and LOVE re-creating these!

Pump. It. Up. #lilly5x5

However you slice it, we're halfway through the week. #lilly5x5

Frozen drinks. Hot gossip. Summer days. #Lilly5x5 #SummerInLilly

Skinny dipping, champagne, first class tickets… what do they all have in common? Better with a friend.Skinny dipping, champagne, first class tickets… what do they all have in common? Better with a friend. #lilly5x5

Do you have any particular favorite 5X5? Let me know!
Have a great long weekend y'all!

Whats In My Weekender

Summer is finally here y'all! And with summer comes weekend trips away (I am so happy to be going to the lake this weekend!) Whether you are going to the beach, the lake, or simply just home for the weekend these are my packing essentials:

1.) Clothes // As far as a change of clothes go, I typically pack about three days worth of outfits I can wear out and about and pick pieces that I can interchange easily and dress up or down. Then typically three days worth of casual outfits that I can wear to bed and around the house.   White pants and chambray shirts are always a go-to! And don't forget a bathing suit! I typically bring two and a cover up.

2.) Shoes // Who doesn't love shoes right? Except when they take up like half your bag! Keep it light, I always pack my Jacks (they dress up and down very easily), my Rainbows (for the beach/lake), and some tennis shoes (my mom and I always try and get outside wherever we are). And if you can, try and wear your tennis shoes on the drive because they are the chunkiest!

3.) Beauty // Keep it simple and be realistic - if you're going to some body of water are you really going to need your full make up bag? You might wear make up out to dinner, but honestly with that tan building do you really need it? No way, let your natural beauty shine!

Definitely don't forget your hygiene products- but you can find a lot in the travel section at Target! If you aren't a fan of any brands they offer, head over to Five Below or Dollar Tree and pick up some mini travel bottles. Bringing the full product will take up way too much space in your bag! And don't forget that toothbrush!

What are your packing essentials? Let me know!

Saturday Shopping - VS Annual Swim Sale

Hey y'all! It is finally summer time and perfect pool weather in North Carolina and with that comes new bathing suits! My mother has always raised me on Victoria's Secret lingerie and I have been a huge fan of the brand for years- especially the swim wear! Their suits are fantastic quality at a good price, I swear I own the pushup bandeau one (you know, the one everyone and their mother owns?) in every color.

Right now they are doing their Annual Swim Sale, so now is the time to stock up for this summer! Here are a few pieces I have especially been lusting over lately-

Wednesday Wisdom

In kindergarden we all learned the Golden Rule - treat others as you would want to be treated.

I love this quote - "Character is how you treat those who can do nothing for you."

It always amazes me when people seem to almost flaunt and brag about how they are such a "good person" but then can't even acknowledge someone crossing the street or the little baby in the grocery line just searching to get a smile out of someone.

Something I always notice right off the bat in people is how they treat others on a day to day basis. You should never expect anything from someone- use your manners and expect nothing in return. You would be surprised how far a quick smile can take you!

Have a great hump day y'all!

The Shellac Hack - Perfected!

I seem to always have to have something on my nails- but can't stand when my nails start to chip three days later. About a year ago, a friend talked me into getting a shellac manicure and I loved it! I just stuck with the normal french, but it lasted at least two weeks before it ever chipped and let me tell you- I am ROUGH on my nails. However, shellac manicures can cost a pretty penny so I have been looking for an at home DIY shellac routine and I believe that I have found the perfect one!

The image above goes from day 1 of the hack to day 7 and its still going strong! I currently have a few chips (maybe two or three little ones around the edges) but keep in mind my nails have also been through a beach trip this week, pool water, and last night I even put up some shelving!

It starts with this- American Classics Gelous Gel Top Coat // the key to the hack. You can pick it up for about $6 at Sally Beauty Supply.

Any polish of your choosing (this week I chose Essie's Raise Awareness)

Any top coat of your choosing (I have been using Essie's No Chips Ahead - best one out there I swear!)

Here is the order of the hack-

*I typically wait about 15 minutes between each coat, so be prepared to sit for a hour or two.

**For lighter colors, use a third coat of nail polish, another coat of gelous, and then the top coat!

Let me know if you try this or know of a better hack, I would love to see!

5 Ways to Beat the Stress of Finals

Happy finals week! (just kidding) I am stressing out too I promise. Whether you are in college or high school, final exams in general are always really tough. Back in high school I remember it was more making sure everything was done, where as in college its more of making sure your grades are where you want them to be (or in some cases- passing!! cough cough macroeconomics anyone?)

However, in the midst of all the coffee fueled, sleep-deprived crazy mess going on around your final exams it is important to stay calm and more importantly, together at all times. Personally, I tend to psych myself out of things and the dread is what leads me to doing poorly. These are the five things I like to do the most to help beat the stress of finals-

1.) Paint your nails - For me this takes about one to two hours (is this normal?)  and its just a little time to treat myself. When my nails look perfect I just feel so much more put together!

2.) Take a shower - Sounds a little silly, right? But there is just something about a nice long shower where you just sit there and absorb the heat. Put a hair mask / facial mask on, sit down and just relax for 30 minutes. You'll get out feeling so much more refreshed and ready to take on your next assignment.

3.) Binge-watch your favorite television show (no more than 2, 3 hours top!) - Netflix is probably the worst thing ever introduced to college students, it makes me so unproductive! But sometimes you just need to not think and indulge in your favorite guilty pleasure. Mad Men is one of my all time favorites!

4.) Catch up on your reading - Get lost in a book for an hour or so, I'm currently reading The Wolf of Wall Street!

5.) Do 15 to 30 minutes of yoga - Roll out your yoga mat and find your inner peace. Yoga for me is time to be alone with my thoughts while getting more comfortable and confident in my own skin. Sun Salutations are great when you only have five or ten minutes, but if you can spare twenty to thirty I highly recommend looking up a sequence on Pinterest and getting in tune with yourself. Sounds crazy but it works!

What are y'all's favorite ways to de-stress during finals? Let me know!
Good luck and may the curve be ever in your favor!
