Snack Time: healthy snacks at home & on the go

With bikini season coming up it seems that everyone and their mother is trying to slim down and get fit. And although I am all for exercise (I LOVE yoga, see my recent post here), getting fit and more importantly getting HEALTHY I believe all starts in the kitchen. After all, you are what you eat right?

Snack time tends to be the easiest time to cheat on a healthy diet, but also the easiest to prepare for! Here are a few of my favorite healthy picks:


  1. Kashi Blackberry Cereal Bars - So yummy and perfect for running out the door and going to yoga class in the morning.
  2. Special K Cracker Chips - I am a sucker for the BBQ ones, but I have had the sour cream and onion ones as well and they were pretty good too! I will buy these on campus all the time because they taste just like normal potato chips but actually fill you up. Bonus: one bag is 110 calories!
  3. Pumpkin Seeds - Seeds are not just for the birds y'all! I will sit there watching tv and end up eating the whole cup. Also a good alternative for popcorn when I want something lighter.
  4. Beef Jerky - Doesn't sound super healthy does it? Believe it or not, two pieces of beef jerky are only about 100 calories and are packed full of protein! (meaning you will stay fuller longer)
  5. Special K Dark Chocolate Protein Shakes - YUM
  6. Water, water, water! - Drinking water is great for you. Common sense. But did you know that drinking water also curbs hunger cravings? 
  7. Stonyfield Organic Banilla Yogurt - This stuff taste just like banana pudding, its so yummy!
  8. Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter - I put this on EVERYTHING.
  9. Pretzle M&Ms - These are my favorite go to's when I need to cheat a little. Out of all the candies out there, they are actually not half bad for you!
  10. String Cheese / Mini Babybel Cheese - Who doesn't love cheese? I especially like to eat these with grapes.
