How To Become Instagram Famous - Guest Post by Hill at From Mississippi With Love

Today I am so excited to have one of my favorite bloggers Hill over at From Mississippi With Love on PYB for a guest post. What really attracted me to Hill's blog when I first started reading was her voice. Each post I feel like she is perfectly on point about every statement she makes and I feel like I'm just chatting with my BFF when reading it. Oh and her love/hate relationship with Taylor Swift and Dunkin Donuts obsession cracks me up. Today she is sharing her favorite post from 2014 (coincidentally one of my favorites too!) - you can see the original post here.

As bloggers/members of the year 2014 I think we all know the importance of Instagram. What started as just a way to share your photos with friends and family has now turned into one of the most popular forms of social media. Whether you're sharing #TBT (throwback Thursday) posts of you dressed for your elementary school play or your latest beach vacation chances are you probably post at least once a week or you know once every 3 hours. We use it to share what we're eating, what we're wearing, and where we're going. And when we aren't posting our own photos we're obsessively checking every hour so we don't miss an update from a friend.

Being Instagram famous is a real thing. I could lie and say I'm not dying for one of my posts to go on the featured page, but I believe in telling the truth, also I don't mind sounding vain. So how does one become Instagram famous? Well you could go on a reality show, start a wildly successful online store, or become BFFs with someone who is already Insta famous and agrees to promote you. Or you could totally cheat and buy followers, which I recently found out was a thing #themoreyouknow

If none of those options work out for you, then I suggest including one of these 10 things in each post.
1. adorable puppy or small child
2. Bible Verses. Bonus if the photo is of the verse highlighted in your Bible
3. Starbucks or ornately frosted donuts
4. #ootd #foodporn #cleaneating #fashionbloggers
5. wearing multiple designers at the same time
6. chips and dip plus an extra large margarita
7. your hand sitting across your clutch showing off your bracelet stack and fresh mani
8. host a giveaway requiring people to "like" the post
9. picturesque resort destination
10. the "it" item of the moment - think peonies in a market bag, pineapples wearing sunglasses, giant eye sculptures (please tell me someone else remembers what I'm talking about here)

PS: help my dream become a reality and go follow me/like all my posts

Have you read Hill's blog yet? You can check it out here, plus a few of my favorite post here, here, and here.

Also - make sure to stop by Hill's blog to see a guest post by yours truly today. Happy New Year!

How I Feel About Finals Right Now

SO sorry for my absence lately - between finals and working max hours at work the past two weeks I have been somewhere between falling asleep never to wake up and a serious mental breakdown. I've stumbled across these perfect articles and thought they were too good not to share.

Are you smack dab in the middle of finals too or am I the only one? (For us it seems to be super late this year!) PS 10 days until Christmas!!

Stocking Stuffers (under $15!!)

I am excited to say that I am completely done with my shopping list with the exception of one person.  Now I'm onto the little stocking stuffers for my family - I'm sure I will be gifting a few of these to my mother, but they would also make perfect presents for your BFFs that won't break the bank this holiday season.

Now that ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas special is on I have been watching Christmas movies non-stop! Which one is your favorite? Let me know!

Small Ways to Get in the Holiday Spirit

I am just about done with all of my Christmas shopping and have been seriously in the Christmas mood lately (can we just skip finals please?). I know especially when you are away from home during the season it can be hard to feel in the spirit without your family here to celebrate with you - so I put together a little list of small things you can do to instantly serve as a pick me up and put you in the Holiday spirit.

  1. Lighting a holiday scented candle // I especially love the Bath and Body Works candles. I'm currently burning Winter and Holiday (not available online, similar).
  2. Holiday-themed manicure // and for the untalented nail artist like myself, you can't go wrong with candy apple red!
  3. PINK Black Friday phone case // I was seriously so excited to find the last one of these at Victoria's Secret (it lights up!!) It's no longer available online, so rush out to your local VS and see if they still have them - you won't be disappointed!
  4. Starbucks Holiday Menu // peppermint mochas are some of my favorites this time of year
  5. Easy DIY decorations // this video  has some great ideas and you can't go wrong with the Target dollar section
  6. Sequins // I don't know what it is about sequins but they just scream the season to me. I wore this skirt to work yesterday and got so many complements on it.
  7. Making your list and checking it twice // buying and especially wrapping Christmas presents to me really puts me in the Christmas mood - I'm a big believer that giving is better than receiving
  8. ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas movies // It officially started yesterday! A few of my favorites include How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Elf, and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. You can see the whole schedule here
  9. Your Favorite Holiday Candy // for my boyfriend that would be the Chocolate Oranges that come out this time of year - I really love candy canes!
  10. Christmas PJs // whether you're wearing them on Christmas morning or lounging around on a lazy Sunday PJs always seem to get me in the spirit. Dorothy at Prep In Your Step recently did a really great guide (see here) to some matching sets and I have my eye on this pair at Victoria's Secret.
What little things get you in the Holiday spirit? Let me know!

Black Friday Essentials - For the Shopper

There is one test separating me from Thanksgiving Break this year. With traveling home to spend Thursday with my family (with a chance of snow, might I add!) and driving back that night to work Black Friday it's definitely going to be a crazy week for me.

Although I will be missing out on all the crazy shopping fun this year, I have found through the years the same things always turn into necessities when you're out bracing the crowds and making a mad dash finding parking spot.

  1. Plenty of Water // It is SO easy to get dehydrated while out shopping all day. Any typical day I do it to myself already but when shopping I tend to get so distracted it's the last thing on my mind. Make sure to pack bottles with you or be prepared to stand in line at the food court for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Comfy Shoes // I can't emphasize this enough. Every year I see women with heels and it makes no sense to me. Black Friday shopping isn't just your everyday trip to the store, you're going to have bags on top of your bags and the last thing you want to worry about is your feet.
  3. Game Plan for the night // Failing to plan is planning to fail. Do your research before going out and know exactly what you are going for when you hit those big stores (i.e. Target, Best Buy, etc). If you can come up with a list and a plan of attack it will be so much easier to pick up (and not forget) all your must haves!
  4. A Shopping Buddy // Although I typically love shopping alone, I would never recommend going by yourself on Black Friday. Once you're actually doing the shopping the whole experience is exciting, getting to that process can get very boring if you're by yourself waiting in line. Plus, she'll totally be able to talk you in/out of that fabulous impulse purchase that's too much of a good deal to pass up.
  5. Mobile Charger // Between posting photos of your Thanksgiving meal on Instagram and tweeting all about what you're #thankful for this Holiday weekend, odds are your phone is going to get very close to dying. One of these itty-bitty devices will be your saving grace while you're waiting in line playing candy crush.
Are you going out this Black Friday? Let me know!

Cozy in Coral

Happy Friday! It has been super cold here lately so when we had a halfway warmish day I shed my coat for a light, oversized sweater. I have a tendency to stick with darker colors (especially having to wear all black for work everyday) during the fall and winter time but recently a few post over at Lindsay's blog Sugar and Something has inspired me to incorporate more summer colors into my fall wardrobe. (Definitely take a look if you aren't familiar with her blog - it's one of my favorites) Although I haven't hit the neon level just yet, I had such a fun time lightening up my look with the coral sweater and my trusty gold flats!

This will probably end up being my Thanksgiving look next weekend - comfy, cozy, and perfectly oversized for when I have that (extra) piece of pumpkin pie!

Sweater (thrifted, similar) // PINK Leggings // Flats // Sunglasses
Venti Iced Coffee with two pumps of vanilla and soy

Larger Chain Bracelet (similar) // Smaller (similar) // Watch (discontinued, similar)

Scarf (discontinued Coach, this year's version)  // Necklace (discontinued, Baublebar)

What are your weekend plans? Let me know!

Lust List - Lululemon

I never understood the hype over Lululemon until a few months ago when I stepped into one while out shopping with my big. I only walked out with a headband that day, but boy did I want just about everything! Their Vinyasa Scarves (4) and a new mat (7) are definitely topping my Christmas list this year -

 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7

Have you ever been in a Lululemon before? Let me know!

Navy & Plaid

I bought this sweater last year early into the spring, and have been dying to wear it since! It's such a cozy navy knit - much, much warmer than it looks! The last of the leaves have started to fall in my neighborhood and I just want to soak up it all up before the cold really sets in.

Navy Cable Sweater (old, similar) // Plaid Shirt (borrowed from the boys, similar
PINK Leggings // Ralph Lauren Riding Boots (thrifted, similar)

Watch (Discontinued, similar) // Lily and Laura Bracelets (Boutique)

(first #redcup of the season!)

Have a great day y'all!

Friday Five

Can you believe its already Friday?! I feel like I blinked on Monday and here we are. To end the week off on a happy note I wanted to share with y'all some songs I have been loving lately -

(1) We'll Come Back Around (Craig Morgan) // I think this is definitely in my top three favorite songs of all time. It sums up being in a relationship so well and every time I hear it my heart just melts!

(2) Canaan Smith // I saw him open for Sugarland years ago and was so impressed by him then. We even got to meet him and he was the sweetest guy! Finally hearing him on the radio lately makes me so proud and I highly recommend you check out We Got Us and Love You Like That.

(3) Steal My Girl (One Direction) // Say whatever you want, you know you love this song. #hatersgonnahate

(4) Marilyn (Alexa Goddard) // I first heard this on the new playlist at work and I am obsessed!!

What's song have you been listing to on repeat lately? Let me know!

PYB Turns One!

It blows my mind that a year ago today I wrote my very first blog post - today literally feels like my birthday. On this very special day I would just like to give a big THANK YOU to every person who has read my blog!! I've met some great people along the way and definitely learned so much through the process. Although today is just a day full of errands / work for me, I still couldn't help but celebrate with some gold balloons and a casual mini-shoot with my BFF.

Sweater (thrifted, similar) // Jeans // Murfee (discontinued print, similar)
Loafers // Purse (discontinued, similar) // Sunglasses

 Monogrammed Necklace (gift, similar)

Gold Chain (large, similar) // Silver Renegade // Gold Chain (small, discontinued Baublebar)
Lily and Laura (boutique) // Watch (old, similar)

The best is yet to come.

November Goals

Can you believe we are already in November?! Where has the year gone??

For me, November seems to always be the start of the Holiday season - especially if you've ever worked in retail this time of the year hits you really hard. It's also my favorite time of the year though. The weather I could totally do without (it snowed in parts of the state this past weekend!!), but there is definitely something to be said for the feeling of the holidays. Through all the hustle and bustle it seems to always hit home for me just how much I have to be thankful for in my life.

And did I mention PYB is turning 1 later this week?!

(1) Post at least once a week // Seriously, I was the worst blogger last month.

(2) Prepare for exams // Once exams starts life is literally going to turn upside down and I won't be able to tell you what goes where and who goes how. If I can preplan and schedule blog post / knock out any and all assignments for school beforehand that should eliminate a lot of stress out of my life.

(3) Set aside some money // There may or may not be a big trip possibly happening come January. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

(4) Get 75% of Christmas Shopping done // I am always thinking about what's next, and I've actually already done a little bit of shopping. There is a decent little corner of my closet devoted to Christmas presents - if I can get most of it done before December not only will I get the best gifts, but I won't have to stress over braving the mall crowds come week of.

(5) Devote myself back to yoga // Yoga is one of my favorite past times and really helps me to control my stress. It's definitely time to get back to that center y'all.

Is it weird that 3/5 goals deal with managing stress? (#youknowyou'restressedwhen) What are your goals for this month? Let me know!

Enough excuses, I'm sorry I've been the absolute worst blogger this past month - this will be changing ASAP I can guarantee.

Happy Halloween! There is definitely nothing more fitting for today than wearing all black (little known secret, this is definitely one of my favorite work outfits!) #wheremywitchesat

With the temperatures finally falling I have been using any and every excuse to break out these sassy booties (see related post here). If you don't already own a Piko top, you need to get one immediately - so comfortable and versatile!

Friday Five 10/3/2014

Hope you all have had a less stressful week than I have! Test on projects on work and just plain old stress. Although I'll be working this weekend,  it will be nice just to relax and catch up on my blogging (and maybe a little homework ;) )!

1.) About Time // I forgot how much I loved this movie - seriously one of my favorites. For starters I'm a huge Rachel McAdams fan but there is something so genuine about this movie. If you haven't already seen it I highly recommend you check it out!

2.) Baublebar // I've never been super into Baublebar but this past week it has really been catching my eye. The Courtney Bib and the Acrylic Block Monogram Necklace are some of my favorites!

3.) Lululemon // I visited one last weekend with my big and fell in love with the store. I only picked up a headband this time, but my heart is set on one of their yoga mats!

4.) Snapchat // I have been on a snapchat crraaazzzee this week

5.) Lilly Pulitzer Murfee Scarves // I bought one during the Lilly After Party sale, then received another as a present from my boyfriend recently. They have quickly become my favorite scarves, I wore one as a shawl to a wedding this past weekend and it was gorgeous!

What have you been loving this past week? Let me know!

Always, kTm

My Accutane Journey

Looking through these photos while writing this post is so surreal to me - if you had asked me a year ago if my skin would ever look this good I would have told you that you were crazy and that would never happen.

Please know before reading that this is going to be an extremely personal post of mine, but it's something I need to share. If you have been following my accutane journey for the past six months you know that I started getting acne at a really young age and it progressively got worse from there. If you've ever had bad acne you can understand just how much the state of your skin can affect your not only your self-confidence but your self worth.

I can tell you all about the crazy side effects and the best products to use when your lips start to crack, but bottom line is that this process was truly life changing for me. I'm not exaggerating either -my confidence has soared and the way I see myself is so different from just a short six months ago. Every time I see someone with severe acne I just want to tell them all about my experience and how much I wish I had done it years earlier. But most importantly, I want them to know that they are not alone in this.

Each photo was taken without makeup and without a filter-

Have you tried Accutane before? If y'all have any questions let me know!

Always, kTm

What's In My Bag

These always seem to be super popular post - and I've been wanting to do one of these for a while. Not going to lie, I can be a super nosey person and there's something about post like these that I just love! Plus, for my birthday I bought myself a new Kate Spade so I figured there couldn't be a more perfect time.

I am currently using Kate Spade Villabella Avenue Quinn Satchel I bought myself for my birthday a few weeks ago. The second I saw it I was in love, I mean do you see the bow on that thing?!? I've never seen something more me in my entire life. Its a very sturdy, well made bag. On the outside it seems very small and compact, but there is a ton of room on the inside and it's so organized. There's two major compartments, with a zipper compartment in the middle.

The first compartment I keep for the necessities -
  • Vera Bradley Wallet
  • Keys
  • Carmex
  • Hand Sanitizer

The second compartment holds all the little things I always end up needing -
  • Coozies
  • Victoria's Secret Cheetah Pouch
  • F21 Gold Pouch
  • Coozies
  • Victoria's Secret Dare to Bare Lip Butter
  • Mints
  • Headphones
  • Pepper Spray

In the middle pocket I keep any mail/flyers that are important at the time as well as a Kate Spade notebook and pen.

What do you keep in your bag? Let me know!

Booties of Fall

To celebrate the first day of fall today I went out and bought my very first pair of booties! I had never really been a fan of them but this season they have really been calling my name -

I ended up going with the middle left in black - and I'm obsessed with them! What are your favorites?

Always, kTm
